LOL Sudbury is thrilled to announce that legendary actor / comedian / musician Steve Martin will perform alongside Grammy Award-winning bluegrass quintet The Steep Canyon Rangers on May 24, 2012 at the Sudbury Arena for an evening of bluegrass and comedy.
Steve Martin is a true renaissance man. The multi-talented Grammy, Emmy and American Comedy Award-winning entertainer and bestselling author has proven to be one of the most diversified performers in the industry today. Martin’s impressive musical talent has long been part of his act when filling arenas for his wild and crazy stand-up shows, and the banjo has been a staple of his routine since the 1970s. With The Steep Canyon Rangers, Martin delivers hilarious quips and anecdotes while performing an impressive array of bluegrass music throughout the evening.
The Steep Canyon Rangers are a classic five-man string band comprised of a guitar, fiddle, upright bass, banjo and mandolin. The band first played with Martin in 2009, garnering praise from fans and critics alike. The popularity of their joint live performances resulted in the 2011 release of Rare Bird Alert – Martin’s second bluegrass album. His first, The Crow: New Songs for the Five String Banjo, won the 2010 Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album.
Steve Martin and The Steep Canyon Rangers were named ‘Entertainer of the Year’ at the 2011 International Bluegrass Music Association Awards in Nashville. Most recently, Rare Bird Alert has been nominated for Best Bluegrass Album at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards.
Tickets are $65 (including HST).
The show starts at 7.30pm.
